Whether it's a smartphone or PC, cyber-crime has become one of the biggest concerns. According to a publication stats, cybercrime is up by 600% due to the Covid-19 pandemic, & more insights here.
As a BLU Cell Phone Facebook Group admin, a user asked me how can we know if I am being tracked through the phone? How can we know? Is there any code to check if a phone is hacked or not? Technically, I don't know much about hacking, but I am pretty good at digital communication as I have studied Electronics and Communication course in Engineering. With whatever I know, I researched and found some helpful insights that I want to share. And finally here comes the answer to the question. Let me put it up in general to all.
Although there is no one straightway code to tell you whether your phone is hacked or not, you can check other signs. Here are the 6 signs to tell whether your phone is hacked or not -
- Battery Life
- IMEI Check
- Redirection Code
- Diversion Code
- iPhone
- Contact Network Operator
- Change the Phone
- Number to Dial
- Conclusion
Quick General Check
As a cell phone owner, you should be able to identify the following things on your phone -
1. Noticeable decrease in battery life:
Without any argument, if you see a noticeable decrease in your phone battery life, your phone might be hacked. But you need to make sure of one another thing before confirming that the device is compromised. Please check whether this quick decrease in the battery isn't because of the battery itself. It may happen if your device is old, as the battery on mobiles can last from 6 months to three years normally.
If you see an inevitable decrease in battery lifespan, it can be said that your device is hit by malware/spyware. This malware or spyware uses your phone resources for spying and sending data to criminal servers.
2. Mysterious pop-ups
Sometimes the intention of the intruder is to get regular money or income, and as such he might inject some code into your site through which you might see pop-ups at regular intervals.
If you see it there often, then it's time to take action.
3. Sluggish Performance
Do you see apps crashing and the device frequently freezing? This may be because of malware or spyware.
4. High Data usage
If your phone is compromised, you can even check your data usage details to know how your is data used apart from your usage. This way you can easily catch the culprit.
5. Outgoing calls or texts you didn't send
Sometimes the intruder's intention might be to send text messages and outgoing calls anonymously without your knowledge. Do check your SMS history and call records and verify it.
6. Unusual activity on any account linked to your device
These things can confirm whether your phone is hacked or not. But sadly these parameters may not be 100% accurate because the above-mentioned things can happen due to buggy software or firmware update or misconfiguration of the CPU(overclocking and under-clocking).
Helpful Codes:
So these are the number to dial to see if the phone is tapped or not -
*#06#: IMEI Check

*#062#: Redirection Code
Since it's your smartphone, most are hacked for intercepting calls. Call re-directions are more commoner than you think. You can put this to rest by dialing *#062# from your mobile and you will get a full list of numbers that are receiving your voice calls, SMS messages, and data as redirection.
